This condition can be particularly painful and stop the athlete from partaking in their chosen sport for weeks or even months. Fortunately this injury can be easily remedied once the mechanics and causes of the condition are understood. However failure to treat the problem effectively can lead to months of frustration.
Muscular shin splints
This type of injury can affect the muscle or more precisely the insertion of the muscle to bone and can be subdivided into two main categories, anterior and posterior shin splints.
